My $40 Facebook ads were boosting the wrong post this whole time
Ran a weekend promo for my bakery in Austin and saw zero orders, but the post had 2k likes. Turns out I had been boosting a photo of my cat sitting on the flour sacks instead of the actual cupcake deal. The cat got all the engagement and none of the click throughs. Has anyone else accidentally boosted the wrong creative and only noticed because sales tanked?
Austin bakeries are basically competing with the algorithm gods these days, and it always picks the weirdest thing to push. I mean, my friend boosted a picture of her dog next to her sandwich board and got way more reactions than the actual menu, so maybe it's just the universe telling us cats and dogs run small business marketing now.
and I swear I saw some marketing podcast talking about this exact thing last week, something about how pet accounts basically hijack engagement stats. They were saying the algorithm treats a cute animal face like pure gold, no matter what product it's next to. So your friend's dog probably pulled in more saves and shares than a month of perfectly staged pastry shots. Honestly, if I ran a bakery I'd just start posting behind the scenes videos of my cat watching the mixer, that's clearly where the real reach is.
