Spent 6 months doing the same facebook ad wrong before someone pointed it out

I was running these facebook ads for my landscaping business. I kept targeting homeowners in my city and getting tons of clicks but zero calls. After blowing about $400 I had a buddy who runs his own agency look at my setup. He said I had the conversion event set to link clicks instead of leads. Basically facebook was optimizing for people to click the ad, not to fill out my form. I felt like an idiot. The whole time I thought my offer was bad or my photos were ugly but it was just one checkbox. Has anyone else had a wake up call like that where the fix was way smaller than you thought?

Small mistakes like that sneak up on EVERYONE because we assume the hard part is the big stuff like the offer or the pictures. The REAL trap is that we stare at our own work for months and never question the basics because they seem too simple to be wrong. It's like when I used to scrub a shower for an EXTRA twenty minutes before realizing I was using the wrong cleaner the whole time.

Nodding along so hard I almost hurt myself lol. I've sent emails with the wrong date and sat there staring at it like "yeah looks good" for way too long.

My neighbor spent two weeks trying to sell a couch before realizing she had the price listed as 400 instead of 40. We all get so locked in on making sure the big things are perfect that the simple details just rot in the background. Makes you wonder what else we've been overlooking while staring at the same screen for hours.
