Took me 6 months to figure out my Google Ads were targeting the wrong city

I run a landscaping business in Cincinnati and I set up Google Ads back in March. I kept getting clicks but no calls coming from them, maybe one a week. Finally sat down with a friend who does marketing and he showed me my ads were targeting 'Cincinnati' but Google was showing them 40 miles out because the radius was set too wide. It took me half a year to realize I had to manually exclude surrounding towns like Fairfield and Hamilton. Has anyone else had a dumb setting waste months of their ad budget?

40 miles out is hardly the end of the world for a landscaping business. I've seen HVAC guys target whole states and still get calls from people willing to drive. Did you actually lose a ton of money, or did you just waste a few bucks on clicks that didn't turn into jobs right away?

What a total pain, right? Six months of cash just floating away into nowhere. That would drive me absolutely BONKERS.
