I matched with a poet who only spoke in riddles

In my experience, when someone tries to be too smart in their bio, it often goes bad. I once matched with a person who said they were a poet. We talked for a week, and every message was like a riddle. I thought it was cool at first, but when we met, they kept talking in rhymes. It was tough to have a simple chat about things like food or movies. Your mileage may vary, but for me, being clear is better. That date showed me that being honest is more important than being fancy, take this with a grain of salt. I left early because I was tired of the games.

Kinda agree with @flores.charlie, people often hide behind being clever. Just be direct and ask for plain talk, it usually works better.

Honestly, that poet might've been using riddles to hide how nervous they were. Tbh, it's easier to sound clever than to be real sometimes.

Used to think the opposite but @flores.charlie is right.

Yeah, that's everywhere, not just poetry. Seen it in work presentations where someone hides a weak idea behind a ton of jargon and fancy slides. Real connection happens in the plain words, the stuff that doesn't sound rehearsed. Takes more courage to be simple and honest when you're unsure.
