Just read that 42% of people on Hinge have never actually met a match in person
Saw that stat in a news article yesterday and honestly it made me feel a bit better about my own ghosted chats lol. Has anyone here actually met up with more than half their matches?

That 42% number sounds high but honestly, what counts as a match? I swipe right on maybe one in twenty profiles and match with less than that. Most of those chats die after three messages. Meeting up is a whole other step that needs real effort from both people. It’s not that deep, it’s just how these apps work. The stat makes it seem like a failure but it’s just the normal process of filtering people out.

Okay you've got a point there. I used to see those low numbers and feel pretty defeated about the whole thing. But framing it as just filtering people out actually makes a lot of sense. It's not that the apps are broken, that's just how you sort through a ton of options to find someone you actually click with. Changes how you look at the whole process.

Wait but that's exactly what feels broken to me though. Like sure you're filtering people out, but the app itself pushes you to swipe on so many profiles that you'd never even talk to in real life. It turns dating into this weird numbers game where you're just hoping to get lucky. I mean maybe it's just me but that whole process feels pretty messed up, not just normal.

My last Hinge streak was like 12 matches in a row that just said "hey" back and forth twice before it died. It felt like a total waste of time. But you're right, that's just the filter working. Each dead chat is one less person I have to figure out if I actually like, you know? It's not a failure, it's just the app doing the first round of sorting for me.
