Matched with a guy who said he was a chef, met at a place in Austin and he tried to pay with expired coupons

Honestly, we met at this nice spot on South Congress and the bill came to like $85. He pulls out a stack of paper coupons from 2022 and argues with the server for ten minutes. Tbh I ended up covering the whole thing just to leave. Has anyone else had a date try something this cheap?

Pulling out expired coupons is a new level of cheap. That's a sign of how he handles basic stuff. You did the right thing paying to get out of there. Next time, suggest coffee or a walk for a first meet. It keeps the cost low and you can bail fast if the vibe is off. Never see that guy again.

Lol that's next level. I once tried to use a coupon so old the cashier laughed at me. Not my finest moment.

Honestly, I used to cut people slack for stuff like that. Thought it was just being thrifty or a funny mistake. But after a few bad dates where small things like that were a sign of bigger issues, I get it now. It shows a real lack of awareness, like they're not even trying to make a normal first impression. Pat's totally right about keeping first meets simple and cheap. Lets you focus on the person, not the awkwardness.

Used to think stuff like that was just awkward or harmless, but this definitely changed my mind. Seeing it play out like that just screams red flag lol.
