Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say his date brought her mom to dinner

He was telling his buddy it happened last Tuesday at a place downtown. I'm trying to decide if that's a new low or just a bold choice. What's the most awkward third wheel you've ever had on a date?

Was the mom there to vet him or just really into the same steakhouse? That detail changes the whole story from a red flag to maybe just a weird family habit.
