Saw a stat that 1 in 5 dating app profiles use stolen photos

I stumbled across a study saying 20% of profiles on Tinder use pics that aren't them, which explains a lot. Do you think apps should be forced to verify IDs, or is that asking for too much privacy invasion?

Do a quick reverse image search on any profile that looks too polished. I always screenshot their photos and run them through Google Images before even thinking about matching. Saved me from getting catfished at least three times last year. These apps already have our phone numbers and locations, so ID verification isnt that much more of a stretch. They could let you verify your profile as optional and just flag unverified ones as higher risk. That way people who want privacy can keep it but you can filter out the fakes.

A buddy of mine actually got burned pretty bad last year with a fake profile, and yeah @jana881 that reverse image search trick would've caught it. She was talking to this guy for weeks, he had these super clean photos in a sharp suit at some rooftop bar, just looked like he had his life together. Turned out the pictures were stolen from some influencer in Chicago-total catfish situation. She figured it out when he kept dodging video calls and finally went digging.
