Spent $40 on a background check for a guy from Hinge and it was the best money I ever wasted

Matched with a guy named Mark who seemed perfect, but his stories about his 'tech startup' felt a little off. I used one of those online services to do a quick check and found out he was actually a middle manager at a cell phone store, with a couple small claims court cases for unpaid rent. The date never happened, but that $40 saved me a whole evening of lies. Anyone else ever feel like you need a private investigator just to go for coffee these days?

Your line about needing a private investigator for coffee really hit home. A friend went on a few dates with a man who said he was a pilot, but his schedule never matched up. She did some digging and found his real job was at a freight loading dock. It made her trust her gut more from the start.

My cousin's friend dated a "marine biologist" who couldn't name a single fish. It's wild how common these little lies have become.

Did you see that article about how dating app lies are getting more specific? @vera195's friend's story about the fake pilot reminds me of it.

Honestly that pilot story is a bit different though, since that's a full on fake job and not just a small lie.
