Switched from long bios to short punchy ones and my match rate tripled in 2 weeks
I used to write these novel-length bios on Tinder trying to be funny and show my whole personality. Lots of jokes, lists of hobbies, even a quote from a movie lol. Got like maybe one match a week if I was lucky. Then a buddy told me to cut it down to like 3 sentences max - just say what I do for work, one thing I'm into, and what I'm looking for. I tested it out for 2 weeks in Toronto and went from 2 matches to 7 in that time. It felt wrong at first like I was being too boring but people actually read the short version. Has anyone else tried shortening their bio and seen a difference?

Wait, are you swiping on people with long bios yourself or just skipping them? I've noticed the same thing in Calgary - girls with paragraphs don't get read but the ones with 2 lines get a right swipe way more often. Short and sweet lets your photos do the heavy lifting and just gives a little taste of who you are without overloading them.

My bio is actually 4 paragraphs long and I get plenty of matches here in Vancouver. I think it filters out people who just swipe on photos. If someone can't be bothered to read 30 seconds of text, they probably won't be great conversation anyway. @emeryj66 might be onto something about attention spans, but I'd rather have 2 quality matches a week than 7 people who didn't even read what I wrote.

I actually read a study a while back about dating app attention spans. It said the average person spends like 3 seconds looking at a profile before swiping. So if you have a long bio, they barely skim it. Plus people swipe based on photos first anyway. A short bio works because it gives just enough info without overwhelming them. What city are you testing this in?
