Facebook ad cost doubled overnight and I almost panicked

Last Tuesday my main campaign's cost per click jumped from $0.45 to $1.20 for no reason I could see. Turned out a competitor started bidding on my exact audience at the same time slot. Anyone else run into sudden cost spikes and have a fix that worked?

Man I had the SAME thing happen with cat food ads and it turned out some new startup just threw money at the same keywords.
