Hit 10,000 email subscribers and thought it would feel bigger
I been grinding on email marketing for this niche fitness site for about 2 years. Crossing 10k subs last week felt like a big deal but honestly it just made me wonder why I didnt start sooner. The thing that changed my mind was seeing the open rates stay steady at 25% even as the list grew. Made me realize it's not just about numbers but keeping people engaged. What milestone made you rethink your strategy?

You ever have one of those moments where you realize you been measuring the wrong thing? I remember when I hit 500 followers on some old blog I had about camping gear, and I was so focused on the number that I didn't notice folks were only clicking on maybe 2 out of every 10 emails. Ended up having to scrap half my list and start from scratch with better content. That kind of reset made me pay way more attention to who actually opens and reads, not just who signed up.

Follower counts used to be my only goal until I saw @the_brian's point about the dashboard hypnotizing you. That story about camping gear emails really drove it home because I've been guilty of celebrating signups I never should have chased. Sometimes the best growth is deleting the dead weight and starting fresh.

Whoa, hold on, you scrapped half your list? That takes some guts, man. I don't know if I could hit delete on that many people I worked to get. But I get what you're saying, @james_bell. I've had that same sinking feeling where you look under the hood and realize it's a mess. It's easy to get hypnotized by the big number on the dashboard, but the real story is always in the small, boring details. I bet that reset felt awful in the moment but it probably saved you a ton of wasted time in the long run. Props to you for having the nerve to do it.
