I saw a guy lose a $20k client because of a bad email list at a meetup in Austin
It was at a small marketing meetup last year, a guy was talking about his agency's big win. He said they got a lead from a trade show and sent a blast to their whole list of 50,000 emails to show off their work. The client was on that list and got the email, but they had never given permission to be added. The client called him right there, furious, asking how they got their email. The guy had to admit he bought part of the list. The client dropped them on the spot. I always knew buying lists was bad, but seeing the real cost in person changed my whole view. It's not just a rule, it's how you keep your business. Has anyone else had a list blow up in their face like that?

Disagree with the idea that buying a list is always a fire. That guy just did it wrong, like blasting 50k people right away. @moore.beth, you gotta clean and segment a bought list first, maybe send a soft intro to see who bites. It's a tool, not a curse, if you're smart about it.

Austin meetups always have the best horror stories. Buying lists is like playing with fire, and that guy got burned bad. It's a quick way to ruin trust you can't buy back.
