Just had a client tell me my emails were 'too professional'

They said my copy sounded like a press release instead of a person talking. Switched to shorter sentences and more casual language, and my open rate jumped 18% in a week. Anyone else get feedback that made you completely rework your style?

What changed to make you drop the formal tone? I used to write super tight, proper emails until someone said I sounded like a robot. @laura_chen41 nailed it, different audiences want different vibes. Swapped in more contractions and shorter sentences, my open rates went up too.

Hold up, I see it differently. Professional language builds trust and authority, especially for B2B or high-ticket clients. Sometimes those "press release" emails work BETTER because they signal you KNOW what you're talking about. What industry are you in? In finance or legal, being too casual can actually HURT your open rates because people want that polished, expert tone. Maybe your audience just needed a slight tweak, not a full overhaul.

Yeah it's like how people dress for a wedding vs a backyard BBQ. Different audiences just want different vibes.
