TIL a better way to check my email open rates

I used to just look at the total percentage from my email platform. Now I segment by the time of day I send the email, because my 10 AM sends for my Chicago clients get opened 15% more than my 3 PM ones. Anyone else track this for their lists?

Segmenting by time zone is a smart move. A lot of people forget their list is spread out across the country. You could also check if the device matters. My own open rates are way higher on mobile for certain types of content, so I send those in the afternoon when people are on their phones more. It's wild how much those small details can change the numbers.

Actually, open rates being higher on mobile is usually because of image blocking on desktop clients. It's not always about when people check their phone. The tracking pixel just loads more often on phones by default.

I read that Gmail's image caching can really mess with open rate tracking too.
