Rant: A town council member told me my leaf blower ban idea was too vague and it actually made me rethink everything
I went to a neighborhood meeting in Oakdale last month pushing for a ban on gas leaf blowers. One of the council members, Deb, said something like 'sounds nice but where's the enforcement plan?' and honestly I had nothing. Now I'm working on a proposal that includes a 30 day grace period and a $50 fine for repeat offenders that goes to a local tree fund. Has anyone else had their big idea shot down and had to actually build out the boring parts to make it work?

Oh man, I've been there! My bright idea was a community composting program and I got torn apart at a zoning board meeting for not having "contamination protocols" or whatever. I thought people would just magically know not to put meat in the bin. Turns out the boring stuff like "who empties it when it's full" is actually kind of important. I spent like three weekends writing a whole plan with a volunteer schedule and a list of acceptable materials. It was the least fun I've ever had being right about something.

Read an article from a university extension office that said 40% of community composting fails in the first year because nobody thought about winter. Snow and frozen bins just stop everything, and then people get mad when the pile stinks come spring. Sounds like your three weekends were just the start, not the finish line.
