My silk dress design completely fell apart during a fitting last Tuesday, now I'm torn on using natural vs. synthetic fabrics for delicate pieces. What's your take?

Actually the fabric choice wasn't the problem. Silk is plenty strong if it's sewn right. Sounds like the construction failed, maybe the seams were too tight or the thread was wrong. For delicate stuff, a fine silk chiffon or crepe de chine holds up well with French seams. Synthetics can be tricky, they sometimes don't drape the same way.

So you're saying @shane_hayes that the thread type could be a bigger factor than the fabric itself? I've had cheap thread snap on me even with good material.

That's a good point from @juliarodriguez about thread snapping. What kind of cheap thread was it, all-purpose polyester or something else?

Ever try sewing denim with that thin all purpose thread? It's a disaster. The thread gives out long before the fabric does. I had a pair of jeans blow out because the thread snapped at every stress point. Good fabric, bad thread, failed project. It's like using cheap glue on solid wood.
