Had to choose between a bold print or a clean silhouette for a client's dress
A client in Austin wanted a custom dress for a big party, but she couldn't decide between a loud, abstract floral print or a simple, sharp cut with no pattern at all. I had to push her to pick one direction because mixing both would have looked messy. We went with the clean silhouette, using a heavy crepe that drapes really well. I was nervous it would be too plain, but when she tried it on, the focus was all on the perfect fit and the single slit up the leg. She said it made her feel powerful, not just pretty. Honestly, I think saving the wild print for a separate piece, like a jacket, was the right call. Has anyone else had a client stuck between pattern and shape, and how did you guide them?
