My sister told me her prom dress felt like a cage and now I'm stuck on this idea
We were cleaning out her closet last weekend and she pulled out this big pink dress from her senior prom. She said she spent the whole night feeling stiff and trapped, like she couldn't move or breathe right. It wasn't just about the fit, she said it felt like the dress was wearing her, not the other way around. That really got to me because I'm working on a collection for my final project at design school. I've been so focused on making things look dramatic and structured, but what if the real challenge is making something that looks amazing but also lets you feel free? I keep thinking about how to build movement and comfort into formal wear without losing the special occasion feel. Has anyone else tried to design around that feeling of physical freedom?

Oh totally! I had that same lightbulb moment after a bad bridesmaid dress, and @aaronsullivan is right, hidden stretch is a game changer for that trapped feeling.

That "dress wearing her" idea makes me wonder about hidden stretch panels in formal fabrics.

Read an article about high-end evening gowns using mesh panels with tiny, almost invisible seams. They put them under the arms or along the side seams where you need a bit of give. Lets the fabric look stiff and formal while actually moving with you.
