That thrifted 90s dress I fixed up last month brought back memories
I found this plain black slip dress at a Goodwill in Portland for $8. Added some beaded fringe along the hemline last Tuesday, and now it looks just like something my mom wore in a photo from 1994. Three years ago I would have tossed anything that needed that much work, but now I actually enjoy fixing things up. Has anyone else started altering thrift finds instead of buying new stuff?

Thrifted 90s dress" sounds like a time machine with a pricetag.

Totally get that feeling @the_sam. There's something about finding a dress from the 90s that just pulls you back to that era, especially when the fabric and cut are so different from today's stuff. I snagged a floral slip dress from 1996 last weekend and it's wild how much lighter and softer the material feels. Good call on that find, hope it fits perfect.

That floral slip dress from 1996 sounds like a great find. The difference in fabric quality is something I notice a lot with older clothes too. Do you think the lighter, softer material comes from different manufacturing standards back then, or is it more about how fibers break down over time? I've got a few 90s pieces myself and they all feel totally different from anything I'd buy new today. Just curious what your take on that is.
