The time a client insisted on using a fabric that just wouldn't drape right

I was in my studio in Portland, and the heavy linen they picked for a flowy dress kept bunching at the seams. I had to scrap two panels and switch to a lighter blend, but they loved the final version. Ever had to talk a client out of a material choice that just wouldn't work?

Last year I had a client who was convinced this gorgeous, heavy wool was perfect for a wrap skirt. I made a quick sample and it basically stood out from the body like a stiff cone. I had to admit it looked more like a fancy lampshade than a skirt. We both had a good laugh and picked a lighter tweed instead.

It's so frustrating when the perfect fabric just won't behave.

My buddy had a client who was dead set on this stiff brocade for a pair of wide leg pants. It was like trying to make pants out of cardboard, zero movement at all. He ended up making one leg in the brocade and one in a drapey crepe so she could feel the difference. She took one look and finally got it, switched the whole order to the crepe. Sometimes they just have to see the problem right in front of them.
