Warning: My sourdough starter was NOT happy about my new 'quick feed' method.

For about two months I was feeding my starter straight from the fridge, just a quick scoop of flour and tap water, then back in the cold. I thought it was fine because it still made bread, even if it was a bit dense. The tip off was my friend Sam, who also ferments, saying 'Dude, why does your starter smell like old gym socks and regret?' I let it sit out on the counter for a full day after a proper feed and it EXPLODED over the rim of my big mason jar, a sticky mess all over my kitchen. I had been basically starving it for weeks. It was a total 'oh NO' moment. Has anyone else had a starter stage a revolt like that after bad care?

Relate so hard to that. My starter pulled a similar stunt after I got lazy with the feedings. Honestly thought it was just being chill until it redecorated my countertops. Felt like a proper baking fail.

Isn't a starter just telling you what it needs? That quick method sounds like keeping a pet in a closet and wondering why it's mad when you open the door.

Honestly that quick fridge method worked fine for my starter for almost a year.
