Got chewed out for my flask setup at the Spokane plant

A foreman saw my cope and drag and said 'You're gonna get a blowhole in every casting with that gating.' He showed me how to angle my sprue at 15 degrees off vertical. Anyone else get a basic thing wrong for years?

Wait, so @faith_hart20, is that sprue angle the main trick, or does the foreman's fix change how you size the runner too?

That old handbook @faith_hart20 found is wild.

Oh man, that's a classic. I read an old foundry handbook that called that exact sprue angle the "poor man's degasser." It said the slight angle helps stop the metal from vortexing and sucking air down into the mold. Sounds like that foreman just saved you a world of headaches.

Nice, I've seen that same trick work wonders on aluminum castings.
