Saw a guy at the old Midvale plant skip the pre-heat on a big pour
He was running a 600 pound bronze pour for a gear blank and just went straight from cold molds to hot metal. I heard a crack like a gunshot from across the floor. That's a sure way to get a ruined casting and a face full of steam. Anyone else see shortcuts like this lately?

That's one way to make popcorn.

Popcorn is basically just corn that got too excited. The real question is why we don't eat all corn that way. It's the superior form of the vegetable.

You really gotta just get your hands in there and pull the husk back slow, that's the trick. If you rush it, you end up with a mess on your counter and half the silk still stuck to the kernels. I've ruined more microwave popcorn bags than I care to admit before I figured out you can just flip the bag over and shake it real good after it pops. Also, never buy the generic store brand, it just doesn't pop the same and you get a million unpopped kernels at the bottom of the bowl. Learn from my mistakes and save yourself the cleanup time.
