Planning my spring garden and stuck on the seed debate
I'm getting ready to plant my vegetable garden this year! Some of my buddies swear by GMO seeds for bigger crops, but my neighbor says they're unsafe and only uses heirloom varieties. What's your take on using GMO seeds for a personal garden?

Why do we treat picking seeds like it's some life or death choice instead of just, you know, gardening? Kelly's story about the tomatoes hits the nail on the head (you can get so bogged down in labels you forget to actually plant anything). I figure if the big farms use GMOs to keep things growing reliably, that's probably fine for my backyard too, but hey, if my neighbor wants heirlooms for the taste, more power to her. In the end, both kinds grow in dirt and need water, so maybe we should all just chill a bit and enjoy getting our hands dirty.

I grabbed some Burpee GMO tomatoes last year because the packet said "drought tolerant," and honestly I see this everywhere now, people overthinking simple choices until they're paralyzed.

Last summer, I spent three hours comparing tomato seed packets online. I was so caught up in heirloom vs hybrid vs GMO that I forgot I just needed something that grows. My partner finally asked if I was planning to write a thesis on tomatoes or just plant a few. So yeah, I get the paralysis. Now I have a garden full of plants I picked on a whim, and they're doing fine.
