Saw my grandma's old hand-crank egg beater at a thrift store and it made me wonder why we pay $100 for stand mixers

She used that thing for 40 years and never once complained about whisking egg whites by hand, so how did we convince ourselves we NEED a $400 KitchenAid just to make Sunday pancakes - has anyone else gone back to a simpler tool and actually preferred it?

Totally get what you're saying. My mom still uses her old hand mixer from the 70s and it works perfectly fine. I tried making meringue with a whisk and bowl once, honestly kind of liked the arm workout and the feeling of actually making something from scratch. Simple tools just feel more honest sometimes.
