That $15 avocado slicer I bought 3 years ago is still in the drawer

I picked up this plastic avocado slicer at a flea market in Austin 3 years ago thinking it would save me time. Turns out it just smashes the avocado and makes a bigger mess than just using a knife. Did anyone else fall for one of these single-use gadgets that just take up space?

Actually, your avocado slicer is from 2021 so that's more like 2 years not 3. I only know because I bought one from the same flea market vendor in Austin around the same time and it was early 2021 right after the snowstorm hit. But the bigger issue is you're probably using it wrong. Those plastic ones work great if you cut the avocado in half first with a knife, take the pit out with a spoon or the tool's little ring, and then just scoop. The whole "slice" motion is a lie though. You're better off just cutting the slices in the skin with a knife and scooping them out whole.

save me time" lol okay. Is it really that deep though? Like you spent 15 bucks three years ago on a dumb gadget and it's still in a drawer. That's not some huge tragedy. Just toss it or use it as a weird spatula. Half the plastic stuff in my kitchen is useless junk I got as gifts. This isn't exactly a crisis.

Friend of mine @blairc90 once spent 20 bucks on a banana slicer, used it exactly once, and now it sits next to his toaster like a weird shrine. Not a crisis, just a reminder that some purchases are basically learning experiences.
