My coworker's reaction when I mentioned taking a mental health day was infuriating

I finally mustered the courage to tell my team I needed a day off for my mental health. Instead of support, I got a sarcastic remark about 'needing a break from what, exactly?' Now I'm second-guessing whether I should even bother being honest about my struggles. It feels like we're still stuck in the dark ages when it comes to understanding psychological well-being. This kind of attitude makes it so much harder to prioritize self-care without feeling guilty.

That "second-guessing whether I should even bother" feeling is so real. I started just saying "I'm not feeling well and need a day," which is still true but shuts down the rude commentary.

Works every time, learned that the hard way.

Ugh, that's so clever because oversharing just invites people to debate your reasons... keeping it vague but legitimate stops the conversation cold before it starts. They can't really argue with "not feeling well" without looking like a monster.
